Wash & Fluff Dry
What is fluff drying in dog grooming?
Several dog breeds naturally have fluffy coats, although, to keep these coats presentable they need to be maintained on a regular basis. Therefore, with fluff-drying, you have a grooming technique that adds volume to your dog’s hair to make it appear fuller on medium and long haired dogs. A wash and dry service can be used, whether you are preparing your dog for a show or you simply want to rebuff your dog’s fluffy appearance.

For which coat is fluff drying a good option?
The wash and fluff technique tends to be the most popular method for drying the coats of Poodles, Bichon Frise and Bedlington Terriers. It can also be used on double coats, which is a type of coat that consists of two layers. There will be a dense undercoat to protect a dog from both hot and cold temperatures, while the top coat helps to repel moisture and dirt. Generally, dogs with a double coat benefit from a wash and fluff dry treatment, as it allows them to retain their fluffy appearance.
How do groomers get dogs so fluffy?
To achieve a fluffy look, groomers use a special technique known as fluff drying. With the use of a blow dryer, the groomer straightens the fur to get it ready to be cut, before giving your dog’s fur some volume to finish with.
How to fluff a dog’s hair after shampoo?
Although, fluff drying your dog is difficult to get the hang of, with some practice it is possible to do at home. To start with, you need to wash and shampoo your dog to ensure their coat is clean and free from tangles. Once you have rinsed the shampoo off, you can pat your dog dry with a towel. Then, use a slicker brush to lift the fur up by the roots, while drying it with a hair dryer. By slowly brushing through the fur, you can start to volumize each section.
After fully fluffing your dog’s fur, check if there are any matted areas you may have missed during the blow drying procedure. If you find one, turn the blow dryer’s settings to cold, before drying the low part of the fur’s grain, while brushing it. This process will ensure the fluff of the coat is not harmed, allowing you to get rid of the matted part easily.
How often should my dog be groomed?
The frequency in which you need to get your dog groomed largely varies, depending on the length and thickness of their fur. Breeds with shorter, finer hair require little maintenance, meaning they only need to get groomed every 8-12 weeks. Whereas breeds with long, thick fur need more regular attention, roughly every 4 to 6 weeks.
How much does a full groom cost?
In the UK, the average cost for a dog grooming service is £39, although, prices range from £18 to £80 and even higher. The amount you must pay depends on a few factors, most notably the size of your dog, the type of coat and the location.
